Testing General Information
Aptitude testing is widely used in the recruitment process across all sectors of employment both corporate and public sector. Sometimes aptitude testing is referred to as:
- psychometric testing
- psychomotor testing
- assessment centre testing
- IQ testing
- Ability Testing
All of the above descriptions refer to exactly the same thing - aptitude testing which is what we are experts in preparing clients for.
There are a number of important facts about aptitude testing that people should be aware of which including:
- Typically around 80% of the applicant pool fail testing
- results are "frozen" for a fixed period
- results count for around 40% of overall score
- Multiple sittings are not allowed
The flow diagrams below detail a typical selection process and show where in the process aptitude tests are used. You can see from the flow diagram below that it is the testing component that presents the most significant barrier to gaining employment.

The following two flow diagrams illustrate the dynamic nature of an employment selection process - it is normal practice for an employer to be continually assessing potential employees - only hiring those who rise to the top. For example from the flow diagram below imagine "Candidate A" is today applying for graduate employment with a Corporate and is well positioned in the hold pool after assessment of candidate from Victoria.

The diagram below illustrates the situation in six months time after more competitive higher scoring candidates from NSW and Queensland have been processed. Candidate A who was initially well positioned for an employment offer is no longer in the hold pool.

The PATS training programs feature computer based training tutorials followed by banks of sample questions.
The training tutorials:
- quickly identify areas that need attention
- demonstrate best technique
- demonstrate template methods
- build numerical skills
- show how to use numerical approximations with confidence
- show shortcuts
- demonstrate best exam technique
The PATS question banks closely resemble the relevant aptitude test - meaning our clients tackle the actual test with real confidence.
It is important to note that our training programs are demanding, requiring you to work hard both on the day and afterwards - but we are very confident of achieving strong passes for those who are willing to do so.
All PATS instructors have extensive experience and proven records of performance in the delivery of training programs.
The performance data of PATS training programs speaks for itself with demonstrated outcomes in assisting clients to pass aptitude tests that are widely known for their degree of difficulty and challenge. For example current pass rates are:
- 100% for ADF pilot selection test - (March 2008 to March 2010)
- 98% for airline pilot selection test - (June 2007 to March 2010)
- 95% for Graduate/Corporate applicants - (December 2008 to March 2010)
While our training programs are strong in all areas two specific areas of particular expertise are:
- Preparation for numerical/mathematical testing
- Assisting clients who do not have English as their first language
